It is with great regret and sadness that we announce the passing of our good friend and resident artist, Wes Dewey. Wes had an amazing gift for capturing the landscapes and wildlife that he cherished about his Kansas home, and his legacy will live on through the incredible body of work he produced over the past 40 years of painting. Wes was a devoted patriarch to his extensive family, and we wish them our sincere condolences.
Wes died of complications from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), which had made painting more complicated and painful over his final months, but he always carried a positive attitude, finding ways to adjust his technique to his difficult circumstances. He was 73.
Works of Art will be hosting a public reception at the gallery on Tuesday, January 31 at 5 p.m. You are invited to join us for a look at his extensive collection, including a large number of original works on loan from a private collection.
A visitation will be held at Countryside Funeral Home—Gibson Chapel in Chanute, Kansas on Monday, January 30 from 6-8 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Askren Cemetery in rural Woodson County on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
